When it comes to participant learning objectives, the new curriculum was well received.

Good online education is easier said than done!

Hundreds of seaport management employees planning to participate in training courses had their plans changed when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Taking instructor led programs to the internet immediately was the only option and MacDonnell Group took decisive steps to be able to continue instruction online. Now that the first successful class has been completed, optimism prevails about this new form of delivery.

Making it work required much more than giving instructors a Zoom account and letting instruction take its course. The lead up to last week included development of procedures, adjustments to the curriculum, technology selection and adaptation, instructor training, multiple pilots, creating online technical support and many other steps.

Students largely had no problem getting online to participate. The senior management level participants in this program all have access to adequate internet resources, and many have experienced online meetings and learning previously.

Participants in this program need courses that are not just accessible, but also well designed to deliver a strong learning experience. A significant improvement the online method brings is the addition of specialist guest instructors regardless of where they are located.For this first class, guest instructors included;

David St Pierre CPE, instructor for this program received high commendation from the participants for efficiently managing a group of senior professionals through 18 modules over five days.
