British Virgin Islands Welcomes CPE Certified Port Executive Program
British Virgin Islands Welcomes CPE Certified Port Executive Program
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia—Ralston MacDonnell announced today the CPE Certified
Port Executive Program will be available to port and terminal managers and
executives outside of North America for the first time. The training
program will be held at the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority,
February 22-26, 2016.
The President of MacDonnell Group commented “The original goals for this
program included making a contribution to the competitiveness of port and
terminal operations for those organizations that wish to invest in their
management” says MacDonnell. “Upwards of 400 industry leaders who have
joined the program to date seem to agree. At a time of considerable change
with the opening of the expanded Panama Canal this an opportune time to
host the program in the region.”
The CPE Certified Port Executive Program is proving to be an attractive
option in providing professional education in the areas of marine
terminals, port operations, transportation systems and vessels in cities
across Canada and the United States, and will make its debut on the global
scene next February.
Mr. Alfred Henley, CPE, Deputy Managing Director of the BVI Ports
Authority, also has high expectations for the upcoming training program.
“We are very pleased to be the first location outside of North America to
host such a top-notch program, in addition to showcasing our new facility,”
says Mr. Henley. “Not only is it an excellent opportunity to host the
program here and welcome participants from outside, but it also provides
some wonderful development opportunities from the British Virgin Islands
and surrounding areas for professionals in the field.”
Mr. Henley added, “Having the program here in the BVI brings us closer to
the goal of having a cadre of trained port professionals in the Caribbean
Region.”
Captain Jeffrey Monroe, CPE, Master Mariner, Master-Transportation
Management, is the seminar leader for next year’s program. “I look forward
to offering this seminar to the many port professionals in the Caribbean,”
said Captain Monroe. “This program provides a means by which port
professionals can see the big picture and hone their skills regarding how
to effectively manage their port and to plan and develop business.” Seminar
participants have included senior port officials from ports throughout
North America. “This state of the art advanced program provides a port
executive with a comprehensive understanding of the role of ports in the
rapidly changing transportation industry. It also provides for an exchange
of ideas and a broad perspective on how to plan and develop successful port
business,” Capt. Monroe concluded.
The program will be held at Tortola Pier Park, a new development of the
British Virgin Islands Port Authority.
